What Happens at a Toastmaster's Club?

What should I expect when I go there?

A Toastmasters club offers you a safe and friendly environment in which you can step out of your "comfort zone" and explore the world of public speaking.  Most clubs are open to visitors and encourage you to attend a couple meetings as a guest before you sign up as a member.

Some clubs are more formal than others, and some are specialty clubs such as Christian, Environmental and Advanced clubs.  All clubs have a unique "flavour" to them, so feel free to visit several clubs in your area to find one that matches your own distinct personality.   Use the Search for a club now! to find a club near you.  The 'club type' feature will help you find a specialty club.

After I  join a club, then what?

Once you join a club you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts, face your challenges, and learn and grow into a dynamic and confident speaker.

You will receive educational material including manuals for our Communication and Leadership programs.

The Competant Communication manual offers a comprehensive and structured learning approach to develop your communications skills. Each speech in the manual has specific guidelines and ideas for you to try and practice, helping you to achieve your goals.  It consists of 10 speeches, taking you from what may be your first ever "Icebreaker" speech all the way through to the excitement of your tenth speech: "Inspire your Audience."

You will be supported and encouraged all the way by your fellow Toastmasters, and receive positive and productive feedback as you are evaluated on each of your speeches.  Upon completion of this manual you will be presented with a competant Communicator award.

The Competant Leader manual offers opportunites within the club setting to develop and hone your leadership skills. Upon completion of this manual you will receive the Competant Leader award.

Toastmasters clubs offer you a great opportunity to expand your skills, conquer your fears, and meet new friends!
